Chief Sub

I was excited for the role of Chief Sub. I always had enjoyed being on the subbing team in second year. I think the key elements of this role were communication and organisation.

Communication
I found with being Chief Sub, communication was the main key. Communication throughout my subbing team was excellent. Everyone knew what stories they needed to sub and let Stephanie and I know when they were done. However, I did find communication with the other journalists challenging. Many would come over and ask if their story had been subbed, but had not let me know in the first place that the story was ready to be subbed. This resulted in my team and I having 5 stories to sub right at the end of the day at past 5pm. In hindsight, I should have sent a message to the journalists asking them to come over and tell me when their stories were ready to be subbed.

Team Management & Organisation

The role of the sub was a role that needed a lot of team work and team management. I used my organisation skills to help me through this aspect of the role. Prior to the day, I had created a table that can be seen above. I made sure the story was subbed by a second year, myself and then Stephanie. I used the table to keep track of what had been subbed and by who. I also had columns to check that the pictures were subbed and that it was uploaded.
